Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice (DemEd Global) has released its first-ever Impact Report, marking a major milestone in the programme’s mission to democratise access to world-class education in sustainability, law, and public policy.
Covering the period 2022–2025, the report captures how DemEd Global has grown into a truly global learning community—reaching learners in 170+ countries, engaging 33,000+ contacts, and supporting 11,000+ course completions across a suite of open-access, Cambridge-led courses on the SDGs, Paris Agreement, biodiversity, trade, investment, and the wealth economy.
More importantly, the report shows that the DemEd Global programme has brought about extensive real-world impacts. Based on an Impact Survey (n=442) conducted in July-Sept 2025, the report finds that:
- 67.2% of learners have engaged in law and policy change processes after completing DemEd Global courses
- 84.2% have taught, advised, supported, or represented others, creating powerful multiplier effects in their communities
- 83.7% have pursued further study or research, strengthening long-term capacity in sustainability governance
- 44.8% have joined new organisations or taken up new roles, often in climate, development, and public policy fields
The report also highlights learner stories from across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe—illustrating how DemEd Global alumni are shaping climate negotiations, strengthening biodiversity governance, advancing youth-led advocacy, embedding sustainability into teaching and research, and contributing to national policy reforms.
Co-hosted by Lucy Cavendish College and Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge, and delivered in partnership with leading institutes including the Bennett School of Public Policy, C-EENRG, Cambridge Global Challenges, and the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, DemEd Global demonstrates what is possible when academic excellence, inclusion, and global collaboration come together.
As the programme enters the next phase of its five-year journey, the Impact Report signals a clear direction of travel: scaling impact, deepening engagement in climate-vulnerable countries, and equipping the next generation of legal and policy leaders with the knowledge, confidence, and courage to turn global commitments into just and effective action.
