Joanna is the Programme Coordinator of Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice and a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge. Joanna’s research is on South Africa’s infrastructural transitions, with a primary focus on governance (on the state and city levels) and energy justice amidst off-grid transitions and evolving policy frameworks and legislation. Her previous experience includes working on the Off-Grid Cities Project, based between the Gauteng City-Region Observatory and universities in South Africa and the UK, researching the social justice implications of elite secession from infrastructure networks in South Africa, and working with National Energy Action, a UK-wide non-profit supporting people at risk of or experiencing fuel poverty through front line interventions and policy advocacy through close work with government.
