Petra Mariaria

Petra Mariaria, BSc Environmental Health (University of Kabianga), MPhil Population Health Sciences (Cantab), is a Research, Engagement, Programme (REP) Assistant with the Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice programme at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge. She is a recipient of the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship and the Female Scholar Representative for the Mastercard Scholars 2023/24 cohort. Her research focuses on developing a decarbonisation framework for East Africa’s healthcare sector aiming to implement eco-conscious health strategies in the region.

Ms Mariaria served as a Programme Officer where she coordinated the Wolfson Research Event (WRE2024) and drafted its programme and booklet. She was also a Conference Coordinator for the Wolfson Global Health Research Hub where she organised the Sustainability, Climate, and Public Health theme session, conceptualising the format of the session, and facilitating engaging discussions and a Q&A panel. As Youth Secretary at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, she spearheaded the introduction and drafting of the programme for youth peer-taught sessions among other duties.

She is skilled in event organisation, reviewing course materials, data analysis, and email template creation gained from her roles as a Programme Officer, Conference Coordinator and Youth Secretary. She speaks English and Kiswahili.
