Professor Dame Diane Coyle, BA (Oxon), DPhil (Oxon), is the Bennett Professor of Public Policy at the University of Cambridge, where she co-directs the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, leading research on progress and productivity. Her research focuses on economic statistics and the digital economy, serving as lead researcher on the Measuring the Modern Economy programme at the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence.

She also examines competition policy in digital markets, the economics of new technologies, natural capital, and infrastructure. Diane is a Director of the Productivity Institute, a Fellow of the Office for National Statistics, and an expert adviser to the National Infrastructure Commission. Her public service includes roles as Vice Chair of the BBC Trust, membership on the Competition Commission, the Migration Advisory Committee, and the Natural Capital Committee. Before her tenure at Cambridge, she was Professor of Economics at the University of Manchester until March 2018.

In recognition of her contributions to economic policy, she was awarded a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours. Throughout her career, Diane has explored what it means for economic policy to make the world ‘better’ and how to measure its success.
